MY VIEWS ON CHELSEA'S DEFENSE.

CHELSEA NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL IN DEFENSE

It’s been awhile I’ve written anything on sports in general because I just decide to enjoy the game as a neutral, but after watching last night’s game which I was left disappointed and  frustrated by  Chelsea’s performance against arsenal, I decided I had to put my own views out there. So majorly I think the most pressing concern for the Chelsea team is in the defense even with JOHN TERRY coming back from injury wouldn’t change much, because there are some conclusions we have to come to;

1.      IVANOVIC IS NO MORE A RIGHT BACK: There are certain attributes that a right-back must possess which Includes, good crossing ability, good positional sense and speed which is very important because most times a right-back would be dealing with wingers who are all about dribbles and speed. Chelsea’s current right-back presently has lost his speed due to age, the once bullish

IVAN is now a weak-link in the team that oppositions are willing to exploit to the maximum, Chelsea need to look inward and address this issue asap there’s an option in one of the preseasons top performers OLA AINA it wouldn’t hurt to give youth a chance right now since experience isn’t working in that area for CONTE and his team. Watching IVAN at right-back now reminds me of Gary Neville in the same position for Man Utd in the twilight of his career…. Embarrassing

2.       JOHN CAHILL IS NO LEADER and DEFINITELY NOT TOP-CLASS: The idea had been for Cahill to understudy while playing alongside JOHN TERRY so he could take over from the Club LEGEND at the same cushion the effect of the Big man leaving or eventually retiring, it safe to say, that has not being case in fact it seems like the player seems to be declining faster than the aging Club Captain.

 Last week first it was a costly mistake against Swansea (which he blamed the referee for), next it was another horrible defending shift at Stamford bridge against Liverpool, the same was witnessed against Leicester and still fresh in our minds is the back pass against Arsenal... what can I say those performances speak for themselves, CAHILL is not the future of that defense, once again the coach should look inward for now until the transfer window opens we can only pray for the quick recovery of ZOUMA.

3.      PACE... PACE... PACE: Every position in our defense needs pacey options who can match the opposition attackers for pace, an example was Arsenal’s bellerin recovery against Pedro in the Chelsea, match he had been beaten but his pace helped him recover and make that crucial tackle to deny Pedro.
I could go on and on about this Chelsea team, I know you would say I didn’t discuss on what to do with David Luiz,or the out of form Matic and the utilizing of Fabregas. The problem in the Chelsea team isn’t only in the defense, but my own opinion is for the team to find a way to stop the goals from going in first, tighten up at the back ,that will bring confidence into the team then from there other areas would be sorted out. Maybe the team needs Mikel again like the last quarter of last season to give it balance and steady the ship. What do you think?
