On my way back from work yesterday, on getting to Agege Pencinema where i would board a bus going to Ipaja, to my right i say some group of youths Dancing and beating drums as they escorted their masquerade celebrating their EGUNGUN festival, though they were rowdy but they were not causing any trouble just dancing and moving along with their masquerade until suddenly a white Police Hilux came out from the nearest street to my left, SARS operative jumped out of the van Grabbed the Masquerades, put them at the back of the Van and started shooting into the Air to the shock of every one around, after the shock wore off the scramble to safety ensured, with everyone trying to fine a place to hide from possible stray bullet being shot by the police.
I was shocked at what i was seeing form were i was standing, how could this Police officers be so reckless shooting into the air and at people in a busy area, How could they not have thought about their actions very well before taking them, the trouble at Agege yesterday could have escalated and caused alot of damages to lives and properties, the youths behind the Masquerades both boys and girls wanted their masquerade back so they pursued the police van, then the police responded by shooting bullets and tear gas while pursuing them back.
When i left Agege yesterday my eyes were teary and there were still Gunshots being heard in distance, while we in the bus prayed to get far away as quickly as possible from the area before the situation spins out control.
As at this morning i heard from a reliable source that the police had requested 100,000naira to be paid as bail for the Masquerades, While the accusation was that they were caught stealing and their followers tried to attack the police. That wasn't true because i was there, Nigerian Police!! Chai!
