MBGN 2013 was held on the 20th of july and for the people who watched it, there was a lot of anger following the show. Everyone who watched it, knew for some reason, there was something not just right ...#PDP. For my darlings who missed it, not to worry, I have got your back. I will be telling the events as they transpired and refreshing the memories of those who watched it.
MBGN 2013, was sponsored by the Bayelsa state government. The girls were treated for 2 weeks by the Bayelsa state government during their boot camp for the preparation of the contest.
The contest proper; the competition started with the girls walking and strutting their stuff on stage and displaying just how gorgeous they are. Appearances by a guy who came on stage and sang a song no one knew, to Timi Dakolo's performance( I don't know why I haven't still gotten a hang of what he does but I guess Naija is just not for him), to the limpopo master himself, who by far stole the show and my heart... dreamy. There was also an award to Omosexy by the Silverbird group, who gave her the Unique personality award which was presented by the Governor of Bayelsa state. I loved her speech on the issue of child marriage, God bless her for that. Then the contest started with the girls, showing their dancing skills on their traditional attires, to their dance which K-cee displayed too, to their evening gowns where from there they were cut down to their top 15.
This was when me and the whole of Nigeria got angry. Why? ... keep listening.
After they had called the top 14, remaining a girl to make it 15. I personally was shocked to hear Miss Abia as the 15th contestant, because prior to the announcement during the display of their evening gowns, she sort of missed her step so I just figured she might not go far in the competition.
She was so happy and excited, she almost knelt down in thanks to the judges. She hadn't even enjoyed the position yet, after 5 mins, they called her back and announced to everyone of us that "there had been a mistake and it was a typo. We are sorry for the confusion but its actually Miss Imo and not Miss Abia"?! I almost drowned in my own saliva(since my jaw dropped in shock). How could there have been a typo?, does Abia and Imo have a ring to it ? this just killed me. My mum even vex pass me sef, she just told me to switch off the TV. How could they have just disgraced and embarrassed the girl just like that? It wasn't just fair to her and the state she was representing. MY STATE! So not cool.
When we finally switched the TV on, thinking the show was over, we met the top 5. We missed the question and answer segment, but from what I was told, it seemed rehearsed and Miss Lagos mixed her answers/questions they had to keep reminding her. Then Miss Bayelsa was among the top 5. That ticked me off a bit, but I thought they just pushed her because her state was sponsoring the show. What happened to Miss Ogun? I felt she deserved to be at least among the top 5 and also Miss Akwa Ibom with her smart self and british accent, that could have taken us far in international competition. I still don't get it with all this people born and breed abroad coming back to take the one wey we manage get... Its all good tho.
Then the positions; fourth position went to Miss Lagos, she almost died on hearing that. She started frowning and was obviously pissed. I can't remember the rest, so am jumping straight to Miss Bayelsa and Miss Imo. After reminding them of their duties and all they need to know about the crown, Miss Imo and the whole onlookers (ones watching from their TVs) all thought she had it in the bag. Miss Imo had this deep natural elegance that filled a room. She knew she worked it and was already the winner, that was why she almost jerked when the winner was announced as Miss Bayelsa. I felt I just got slapped in the face. I felt the pain way more than Miss Imo. MISS BAYELSA WON?! WAS THIS SOME SORT OF SICK JOKE?!!!
Then from then on, the Governor came on stage presented her an award , then gave her the position of personal assistant to the governor on tourism and she also got a Cartier wristwatch. The Governor even said he would have wanted to be the won to announce the winner. Then the Cartier brand executive just kept touching the girl on live tv, which just pissed everyone at home off. Atleast she is 18, so that's ok.
Like I always say, there is always a root and a link. Then I went for my research and realised something like this had happened before, but not in Nigeria, in the 2012 Miss World competition.
Remember? The Silverbird group brought the show to our viewing pleasure. Ok for those who missed lemme give a quick summary of what happened. Miss World 2012 was sponsored by China. They were the host country. And after the whole competition even though the winner didn't answer her question properly, Miss China Yu Wenxia won the crown for Miss World.
Now, what am I saying? You cannot come and reign on my parade. The Chinese government sponsored the girls and toured them around China and treated them during their stay. You cannot now at the end of the day, say she didn't deserve the crown. Money talks bullshit walks boo. I remember I was dumbfounded when the owner and organiser of Miss World, was the one to crown the girl. So yes, the country spent mad money on the competition and contest and therefore deserved to be given the crown.
Back home to Naija; If I was the Bayelsa government, after spending so much on the competition, I would demand, that I be the one to give them positions from the last to the first e.g the thirty-fourth position goes to.... (lol)
After saying this and casting away anger and welcoming wisdom, you now understand why what happened, happened and you can relate. So don't make MBGN 2013 feel bad, na so God wan use bless her. The person I feel more for is Miss Imo. Because from the beginning, it seemed like everything was against her, from her name being mixed up to her not winning. She at least gets to go home with MBGN Universe and represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe award. Silverbird should also be thanked for at least showing us what happened that very day. Its not like they hid it and came to tell us who won the award. They considered us, unlike Miss Nigeria. We just slept and woke up one morning to be told that Akudo is the new Miss Nigeria. Beautiful girl I must say, compared to all the other vultures, they have being crowning as Miss Nigeria. Especially the Miss Nigeria 2011. Its like they had an agreement to only crown someone that even in their old age, they would look better than the person.
