ASUU STRIKE LOOMING!! WITH CALLS FOR STATE OF
EMERGENCY IN THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR
The Academic Staff has renewed the call for the declaration
of a state of emergency in the educational sector. The call came on the heels
of the death of the senate president of the National Association of Nigerian
Students and four other officials of NANA in a terrible motor accident last
week in uyo, akwa ibom state on their way to UNIUYO intervene in the crisis and
riot.
In a statement by its president, Dr. Nasir Isa, the union
said the fate that befell the five NANS official called for the declaration of
emergency in the entire education sector by the fedral government. The union
also urged students to step up their activism by re-opening the issues
bordering on compelling government to increase its annual budgetary allocation
to atleast 26 per cent, revival of education bank and Job creation for teeming
unemployed graduates.
Nasir said, ASUU invites the students’ movements to reopen
the issues; uncommercialized education with access to all, especially the
children of the underprivileged; allocation of at least 26 per cent yearly.
there is need for the revitalization of the university systrm on the basis of
the scientifically sound Needs Assessment , the restoration of the once-virile
education bank and the creation of the teeming unemployed graduates.
